Family Eating Thanksgiving Dinner

Oh the holidays!

What a wonderful time of year. Well, I hope you are feeling that way; it’s not that way for everyone, though. The holidays can be a very hard time, a stressful time, a busy time, and of course when we are working on weight loss, a time when temptations surround you.

We want to take time to encourage you to take a few minutes to think about your holiday celebrations and what you can do to not just survive, but thrive.

Tips for Holiday Thriving:
• Gratitude: Fostering a grateful attitude can go a long ways. Research is showing much about the attitude of gratitude. Grateful people are happier, more content with life, and are actually healthier. Count your many blessings one by one!

• Relationships: We encourage you to foster the relationships around you. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s are great times to spend time with the ones you love, reminisce and reflect on those that have been lost, and possibly introduce yourself to new relationships. We are all social people meant to be with others, use this time of year to do just that.

• Prioritize: This is a very busy time of year; programs, gift shopping, parties, and more. Outline what is important to you and cut things that are not. You may have to say “no” to certain things that are not worth your time. Don’t over-commit, be realistic with your time. Simplify.

• Remember what this season is all about. Take time to reflect spiritually on the gifts around you, the gifts that were given to you, and the gifts you can share with others. Maybe adopting a family in need could be a great step to getting back your focus on the season.

• Remember that the holiday season is not just about food. Yes I just said that! We as a culture have made food central to many celebrations, let’s take back our celebrations. Let’s not center our lives around food, instead let’s spur others on in a movement towards relationships and life and not food.

And if food is needed, let’s bring something healthy to share, we will be sharing healthy holiday treat ideas, too. So keep checking our blog for healthy holiday treat recipes.
