Pre-Existing Conditions and Health Care Reform

Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, many rules and regulations governing the health care industry will change. For those with a pre-existing condition such as diabetes or heart problems, obtaining health insurance has been very difficult. That is about to change.

Starting Jan 1, 2014, you cannot be refused coverage because of pre-existing conditions, even if you have been refused coverage in the past. This means easier access to health care. For those who have been unable to find affordable insurance in the past due to pre-existing conditions, this will make it so much easier to get health care coverage. More often than not, those who have been denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions need health care insurance the most, now they are able to find it easily.

On Oct. 1, 2013, you may enroll in another plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace for coverage will begin Jan. 1. Your local insurance agent will be able to direct you or you can go to healthcare.gov and sign up for updates by text or email.
